REXEL, the world’s leading distribution network for electrical supplies, chooses ORSYP to automate its IT Operations processes.

Having opted for the Best of Breed model in the restructuring of its IT systems, the Rexel Group turns to ORSYP’s Job Scheduling solution to automate the management of its IT systems.

ORSYP, a market leader in IT production systems, has been selected by Rexel to automate its IT processes, following a restructuring of their IT systems under UNIX.

The Rexel Group is the number one worldwide distribution network for low voltage electrical equipment (21,000 employees, €7.377 billion turnover in 2005). This market has an approximate value of €138 billion, of which Rexel currently holds 7.1%, and has strong growth potential.

Rexel’s objective is to supply quality products and services that make a difference as quickly and cost-efficiently as possible. Their product line is composed of 2 million references, of which 30,000 can be delivered worldwide on Day +1.

Internationalization of Rexel’s client base

In order to respond to the changing structure of its client base, Rexel had to evolve into an organization that is more adapted to the global nature of its customers. This has led to a new architecture of its IT systems, implemented through various projects: 

  • Unification of logistics and warehouses
  • Financial and legal merge
  • Stock management
  • Consolidation of POS systems on AS/400

Best of Breed solution

For the reengineering of its IT operations, a global environment based on Unix, Oracle and AS/400, Rexel decided to move away from an ERP, as it was judged to be too rigid and would not have offered sufficient flexibility to evolve with the dynamic market. Rexel therefore turned to a Best of Breed solution (employ the best components for each brick, for each silo). As this model involves a great deal of exchanges between applications, Rexel opted for a job scheduling solution to allow these exchanges to be executed automatically and autonomously.
