A job scheduler programs the automated execution of background tasks (batch jobs) at pre-determined points in time (e.g. every day at 8pm, midday on Wednesday). SAP Solutions systems come with several SAP job schedulers that provide basic scheduling and sequencing (CCMS, DB13, to name but two).

However, business processes may span multiple platforms, applications, countries and even companies. Their complexity may require much more functional power than the one offered by a SAP job scheduler that is internal to SAP. Such SAP job schedulers are limited to SAP processes and cannot synchronize with processes external to SAP Solutions. ABAPs managed by CCMS for example cannot synchronize with database management tasks handled by the DB13 scheduler.

An advanced SAP job scheduler will provide both scheduling and sequencing capability, cross platform and cross application, together with certified integration into SAP Solutions enabling the synchronization of ABAPs, database maintenance, SAP BW InfoPackages, Batch Input mapping, file transfers and all non SAP processes, leading to real end-to-end management of the business process.
